Elk Candy Company was founded in 1933. The specialty of the house is marzipan and they carry a wide assortment of
top notch , high quality marzipan. It's fairly priced, figure around $20 a pound with some a little higher. There are all
sorts of shapes and sizes, we know a little girl who can't get enough of the marzipan lady bugs but you can choose from
pigs, fruits and horseshoes among others. They also produce chocolate which is pretty good, not great but pretty good.
They dip all sorts of fruit including dates, ginger and apricots. They also dip such staples as marshmallows, coconut,
raspberry jelly and raisins. With Christmas coming up they also keep with the neighborhood's, Yorkville, German
heritage by producing such German holiday favorites such as Domino Steine , a spiced gingerbread treat and little
Kringles made from marzipan and chocolate. This shop is definitely worth a visit if nothing else than for the excellent
marzipan. A review from New York magazine , A good writeup from Gocitykids , An interesting article about the history
of chocolate Santa Claus's from the Village Voice .
