05/09/2008 - Nothing much has changed since our last visit. Still down home local chocolate at fair prices. With
Chocolate Bar moving from down the block to the East Village Li-Lac will have the area to themselves. Always a
recommended spot to visit.
2006 - Veterans of the New York chocolate scene having been in business since 1923.
They've recently opened up in a new facility and are serving the same old style chocolate.
The truffles are Okay with the Grand Marnier and French Cream being a cut above the rest.
Where they excel is in the what used to be the staples of the business which are slowly disappearing. The Cream Patties
are exceptional, the Almond bark is crunchy and sweet they way it's supposed to be, excellent chocolate covered
orange peel and we really like the chocolate covered Oreos and the fudge is much better than average.
In fact life could be worse than picking up some of the chocolate covered Oreos and then scooting up to the Chelsea
Market ( 9th Avenue between 15th and 16th streets ) sitting down on a bench and eating them while marveling at the
birthplace of the humble Oreo.
